If you are an international, Chai House Chatter (CHC) is the site you wanted when you first started working in Somalia or on issues related to Somalia and the Horn of Africa. If you are Somali, it is the site where you can provoke discussion and debate about our beautiful but damaged country.
Whether international or local, Chai House Chatter acts as a site where you can securely post information that shows the significant flaws that mark interventions in Somalia – whether they are humanitarian, international community, Diaspora or local interventions. You can also showcase the very best of what Somalis are doing for themselves, as well as those initiatives within the international community that really do make a difference.
Chai House Chatter captures those rumours and stories discussed over an early morning chai in Beletweyne, or a late night chew in Hargeisa – you know - those rumours that fuel the Somali people as much, if not more, than the sweet spiced chai or the very best Khat. We want you to tell us those stories – Chai House Chatter makes sure that you can give your stories, as well as get those from every corner of the country and beyond.
Chai House Chatter has a network of friends that stretches well beyond the Somalia borders into Kenya, Ethiopia and into the Diaspora communities in the UK, Canada and the US.
Of course the intention of sharing all of this information, is to ultimately provide those of us who work in or on Somalia with three things: timely, accurate and actionable information.
Beyond the rumours and the gossip, Chai House Chatter also provides information about the country, the towns and the clans. If you are a local NGO or community-based organization, Chai House Chatter will work with you to tell others about what you do, where you do it and how.
Do not worry if your English is not great, the team here at Chai House Chatter will provide you with all the help you need to tell your story.
Do you have the ability to assist or facilitate visiting internationals or journalists? Contact us and we will work with you to get your service publicized.
For those who operate in potentially hostile environments, accurate and timely information is critical.
